Excellent article, thank you. However, you did not mention nuclear power in the mix. How Germany shut down its nuclear generation fleet following Fukushima, and now looking to fire it up again, how Japan is re-opening Fukushima, and that France gets around 70% of its power generation from nuclear.
Australia has huge reserves of uranium, and ample expertise to pursue nuclear power generation, as well as arguably the safest geology in the world (in SA) for waste storage. It is bonkers to maintain the ban on nuclear power in this country.
Yes Philip, it is another excellent article from Chris. He’s a real gem, but I fear that far too few people are taking any notice: Far too many are rabid deniers of the facts, and far more are just too lazy to be bothered.
We can just hope that, sooner rather than later, more will start noticing and thinking.
They will have to be taught by voters in their electorate who tell them that they will not get support unless they lift their game. I hoped that the Energy Realists of Australia would be able to find people who would engage in a polite and persuasive conversation with their local members and staff and also with candidates for upcoming elections to “learn them”.
We circulated briefing notes to sitting pollies and 100 journalists (not including Chris who was not on my radar at the time.)
We did not have the resources to get far but there are growing networks and the work goes on. We stopped mailing the pollies but 100 journalists are still on the list, getting updates from time to time. Like this
A truly impressive train load of cherry picked, obviously biased, spun beyond recognition BULLSHIT.
To much to bother with rebuttal. One thing I will say as a microcosm of the entire clusterfuck of fossil fuel fluffing word salad.
You claim it's a great burden and cost using renewables because you can't capture or need all the power produced at times.
You failed to mention the 11 MILLION $ per minute fossil fuel entities receive in subsidized income on a global scale. Let alone the extraction, use and spillage literally killing all life on the planet.
Seriously, Bruh. Take your fossil fuel cocksleeve agitprop elsewhere.
IMO no brainer that the nation extracts a bigger cut from exploiting non-renewable resources. The debate the country is lacking is whether every cent of any royalty/special tax should be placed in sovereign wealth funds ala Norway.

Well, what else is there?
The Germany transition tanked eight years ago, according to their official report at the time, but they're slow learners, and so are we.

It's just a shame that so many people are worried about plant food in the air.
What if we didn't have to worry about warming?

The way our politicians talk, I wonder if we'll ever learn Rafe.

BULLSHIT. The failure on the part of the Germans was to rely on a despotic madman for a statistically significant portion of their total energy needs.
Lying POS.
Brilliant analysis, finishing with a devastating rhetorical flourish aimed at the hypocritical, overfunded, pampered, state protected banks.
Journalism doesn't get any better than this. Deserves the widest circulation.
The POTUS ‘spawned’ an oil crisis. This was has been a long time coming. The IRGC has been killing and harassing the west for a long time.
We elect corrupt and foolish politicians and wonder why we are in a mess!

Bloody great analysis, over the target as usual!!
